the early 16th century in Florence. The city is one of the Renaissance's hubs during this time, when art and culture are in vogue. Arte, a young woman from a noble family whose greatest desire is to become a painter, lives there as well. Although she takes individual classes at home, she is unable to pursue the professional training required for her occupation, which is only open to men. But Arte is no longer willing to put up with this situation. She departs from her parents' house in search of a master in the city who will accept her as an apprentice.
