Soccer is Tsubasa Oozora's absolute favorite sport. A soccer ball even once saved his life in his early years. Tsubasa and the ball have never been separated since that time. After his family relocates to Nankatsu, he unintentionally interrupts a soccer match between the Ishizaki-coached Nankatsu Elementary School team and the national champions from Shutetsu School, who are represented by star goalkeeper Wakabayashi. In order to finally compete against Shutetsu School at the city sports festival, Tsubasa then joins the Nankatsu Elementary School squad, which is soon coached by former Brazilian star striker Robert Hongo.
Tsubasa, Ishizaki, and Wakabayashi are followed as the series goes on as they compete in the national school championships, where he meets a lot of new friends and opponents. Tsubasa has only one goal when competing in the championships: to go undefeated. Only then will he realize his ambition of playing professional soccer in Brazil. But his opponents, most notably Kojiro Hyuga of Meiwa FC, never make it simple for him, thus Tsubasa must continually improve his technique to enable success for his squad.
Be aware that the action of the plot is now taking place in the modern age in this additional manga adaptation.
