The protagonist of Cardcaptor Sakura is ten-year-old Sakura Kinomoto, a typical child. When she opens a mystery book called The Clow in her father's library one day, her life is forever changed. Magical cards are concealed inside the book, and when the cover is opened, they immediately take off in all four wind directions. At the same moment, Kerberos, the keeper of the Clow Cards, who had just finished a 30-minute snooze, also starts to stir. The cards are gone and need to be added back to the book. They were magically capable of doing immense harm. Sakura is given the ability by Kerberos to change into a Card Captor, a card catcher, in order to recover the Clow Cards. Sakura's big voyage, which is full of surprises, officially starts now.
Her best friend Tomoyo, who records all of Sakura's adventures on video and creates amazing outfits for Sakura, also assists her in her mission. Along the way, she encounters Shaoran Li, an exchange student from China and a descendant of Clow Reed, the man who invented the Clow Cards. Shaoran is a formidable rival to Sakura because she is also searching for the Clow Cards.
