The 20s were a golden era since calm reigned after the First World War. The economy is booming, and advancement seems to have no bounds. Massive ships travel the oceans as skyscrapers rise in the cities. But there is also a deep shadow that science cannot illuminate.
This shadow is specifically the work of the Order of the Magdalene in New York. He employs the young nun Rosette Christopher and Chrono, who must venture outside at odd hours and through dense fog. The formidable pair steps in anytime the demon alarm is heard as a mobile exorcism unit. The pairing of Chrono and Rosette is quite uneven. Due to her temperament, impatience, and trigger-happy outbursts, Rosette doesn't really fit the stereotype of a nun; yet, Chrono, in contrast to Rosette, looks to be the laid-back and decent lad. But a devil is concealed behind this mask. Why is he working for the order with a nun? He has a legal obligation to Rosette. This means that while she has control over his abilities, her life energy also fuels his abilities: Rosette's life expectancy decreases with each Chrono use.
But their relationship is not limited to the contract. In addition to the connection that binds them together, Chrono is compelled to take part in the quest for Rosette's brother Joshua since it holds the secret to regaining his demonic independence.
