Greetings from Quindecim! The two customers are first at a loss when they see the white-haired, stoic bartender Decim because no one in the pub can recall how he entered the establishment or what he was doing before that. Everything else appears normal, except from these enigmatic circumstances, until Decim informs them that they cannot leave the bar until they engage in an usual bar game in which their lives are at stake. The two customers agree after genuinely being unable to discover an exit or any other means of escape, and what starts off innocently enough develops into a terrible, fate-determining game in which the customers gradually retrieve their memories and their true natures become apparent.
Decim monitors and evaluates every move made by the players because, as they are unaware, Decim—who is not merely a bartender but a referee with the power to judge their souls—determines their fate, not the game.
