Legends about man-eating demons that prowl the forest at night or even break into other people's homes and devour the residents have existed for a very long time. The Demon Slayers are reported to wander the earth, chasing such vengeful demons and defending the populace, for this reason. This soon turns into a reality for the youthful Tanjirou.
Tanjirou, the eldest son, has made it his mission to support his family ever since his father passed away. Despite the challenges of living on a lonely mountain, he and his numerous siblings, together with his mother, are content. But when Tanjirou discovers his family dead, this happiness is abruptly destroyed. Only his sister Nezuko appears to be showing any traces of life, and unexpectedly, despite having changed into a demon, she still exhibits signs of human feelings and ideas. Tanjirou joins the Demon Slayer team in an effort to find a way to change his sister back into a human.
