May 1, 1945 - While World War II is still raging, certain Nazi leaders carry out a horrible ceremony in which they sacrifice the lives of those who died in battle. The Order of the 13 Lances, a team of superhumans who are meant to wipe off the whole human race, should be called forth by this rite. Nobody is aware of the outcome of the ritual or what happened to the participants; instead, the legend has grown around the tale.
After a quarrel with his friend Shirou Yusa, Ren Fujii gets freed from the hospital decades later in Suwahara City. He makes an effort to process what happened, but he is plagued by the same dream every night: a guillotine, assassins hunting victims, and knights in black pursuing the murderers, echoing Shirou's warning that "Anyone who stays in this city will eventually lose their mind."
