Takato Matsuki spends his time sketching the ideal Digimon because he longs to own one. Unexpectedly, the young Takato Matsuki manages to build the Digimon Guilmon from one of these sketches, and he instantly befriends the creature.
Takato finds out shortly after that an increasing number of Digimon are abruptly entering his world. However, they are much less amiable than his Guilmon and willlessly attack both buildings and people. Some of these are the twelve Digimon known as the Deva, which represent evil in many ways.
He works to combat these wicked Digimon and expel them back to the Digiworld alongside Guilmon. He meets Rika and Henry, two other Tamers, during this process. With their Digimon, the two join Takato's resistance. The Hypnos organization, which aims to wipe out the Digimon in order to save the world, quickly steps in to oppose the Deva.
