Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress Cosplay

When the Kabane, near-immortal monsters that infect humans and convert them into zombies by infection, first arise, the planet is in the midst of an industrial revolution. They monsters' only apparent weak point appears to be in their hearts, but these are covered in a thick layer of iron, making it difficult to destroy them without a lot of gunfire or brute force.

In order to defend themselves from these beasts, residents on the island of Hinomoto in the Far East constructed stations; people and commodities are transported between these stations with the aid of enormous steam locomotives known as Hayajiro. The resourceful Ikoma not only contributes to the construction of these locomotives, but he has also created his own weapon to use against the dangerous monsters.

He and other survivors attempt to flee Aragane Station, their home, after it is one day conquered by Kabane, onboard the Koutetsujou. He resolves to offer himself as a sacrifice so that the others can escape after getting bit while successfully fending off a Kabane. He is, however, saved at the very last second by the enigmatic Mumei, who informs him of his new identity as a Kabaneri—a cross between a human and a Kabane.
