King Louis XV summons the youthful D'Eon de Beaumont to the royal court of the Palace of Versailles in 18th-century France. The cause? In the Seine River, a coffin containing a body is discovered. The word "Psalm" is written in bold red letters on the coffin. The deceased is none other than Lia de Beaumont, D'Eon's older sister.
D'Eon's main desire during his most grievous time is retribution. He joins Paris's secret police as a result of this. He is interested in learning who killed his sister and why. He soon learns that there is much more to it than simply the simple murder of a noblewoman, though.
