The conflict between humans and Zentraedi ended many years ago in the year 2045. Macross 7 is a massive space station that has been created and launched into orbit with the goal of discovering new planets where people might reside. Everything you would find on Earth, including trees, automobiles, factories, and even the sky, is holographically depicted on the enormous station's large glass dome.
However, sadly, there are still terrible creatures that won't leave humanity alone. The Spiritia, a unique energy found in humans' bodies, is stolen by the warlike Varauta race with the aid of a ray. Higher Spiritia than average people, such as those who are scholars or musicians, increase a person's risk of being attacked by the Varauta. After that, the victims go into a coma.
The Varauta launch their initial assault as the band Fire Bombers—which includes guitarist and lead singer Basara Nekki, half-Zentraedi Mylene Jenius, band manager Ray Lovelock, and Zentraedi drummer Bihida—performs. The attackers outnumber the Macross 7 soldiers. However, a crimson Valkyrie arrives out of nowhere. Basara pilots the plane. Because he believes in the power of songs, he is able to fend off the assault with the help of his loudspeaker-firing mecha and his music.
More attacks occur, and it's continually discovered that people have had their energy stolen. Macross 7's administrators are concerned about the locals. But the Fire Bombers must also battle their own issues. The youngest, Mylene, is frustrated because she has a lot of stuff to do. A problem magnet, Basara. Naturally, the Varauta do not take breaks, and naturally, the band wants to finally advance.
