One is born with the intention of discovering their own happiness and living a happy life. Mirai Kakehashi, on the other hand, is far from content. He is lonesome, has no friends, and lost his family in a car tragedy years ago. He currently resides with his aunt and uncle, whose home is a violent one where he is abused every day. He eventually wants to commit suicide by jumping off a tower since he despises his life.
However, just as he is about to fall to the ground, the angel Nasse enters and saves him. She has come to bring him happiness. Love and freedom are two characteristics of happy people. She offers him two options in order for him to get these two things: either he selects an arrow, which makes everyone fall in love with him right away, or wings, which grant him freedom. Despite how tough the decision is, Mirai chooses both! He now understands what he must do: he must pursue his own happiness!
However, everyone who does not believe that life has any significance is eligible to run for the role of a new deity. There are twelve other God candidates in addition to Mirai, all of them have an angel at their side and with skills comparable to his. Mirai, however, has 999 days to eliminate these 12 rivals in order to become the new deity.
