Kakeru used to be one of his school's top runners. Because he took food, he is now unexpectedly forced to flee. Haiji, a student at Kansei University, comes to his aid. Being a runner himself, Haiji is able to persuade Kakeru to relocate into the dated Chikuseisou apartment. Haiji and other locals there intend to take part in the fabled Hakone-Ekiden Marathon, one of the most well-known university events in the entire country of Japan! This event takes place every January and covers a total of more than 200 kilometres from Tokyo to Hakone and back. But Kakeru rapidly discovers that the other locals are total amateurs at the marathon sport, save from him and Haiji.
