The anime is set 243 years before the first Saint Seiya, in the 18th century in Europe. Tenma, Alone, and Sasha, three little children, all had a very joyful childhood together. Tenma, who is rather violent yet has a kind heart, has traveled to a holy location to become a saint. There he runs into Sasha once more, who is Alone's sister and declares to be the goddess Athena's reincarnation. The hostile ruler Hades chose Alone, who is exceedingly nice and religious and enjoys painting, for the body. Tenma ultimately succeeds in becoming the patron saint of Pegasus and engages in a bloody conflict with King Hades, his closest friend Alone.
