The Ancient Magus' Bride tells the story of 15-year-old Chise Hatori, who has lived with various relatives after her mother died and her father vanished, until she eventually finds herself at an odd auction. Elias Ainsworth, a moron who claims to make her his apprentice, buys her there. Elias is a wizard who feels quite at home in the land of fairies and dragons. Chise is not only to become his apprentice—she is also to become his bride—but the magician drops another bombshell before she can even adjust to her new living circumstances.
