Richard Ranashinha de Vulpian, a jewelry appraiser, is the subject of the anime series The Case Files of Jeweler Richard. The dashing British man has a tiny jewelry shop in Japan because of his expertise in mineralogy. He is accosted on the street one night by a couple of inebriated men due to his attractive looks, and Seigi Nakata, a fellow student, saves him. Seigi begs Richard to look into the history of a ring his grandmother left him after learning that Richard is a jeweler. It doesn't take long for Seigi to earn Richard's trust and start doing some part-time work for him. Richard and Seigi collaborate on client requests relating to various pieces of jewelry and their backstories, but they also each have their own secrets that they keep from one another.
