The anime adaptation of Maybe's self-titled manga, To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts, transports us to a planet torn apart by a bloody civil war. The harsh battles between the North and the South raged for an incredibly long time, and when the North's citizens and soldiers realized they were going to lose because of the South's numerical advantage, they turned to the dark powers. They produced so-called Incarnates, monster-like super-soldiers, through a forbidden ceremony of black magic. However, much like regular troops, these super-soldiers must find a way to reintegrate into a peaceful society now that the war is ended and the globe is at peace once more. The Beast Hunter's existence is another evidence that this is not simple for monsters made solely for warfare. The Incarnates who are unable to integrate into society have to be cared for by the Beast Hunter, and Nancy Schaal Bancroft's father was one of the victims of the Beast Hunter.
The premature passing of Nancy's father, however, has only one meaning for her: Nancy will exact retribution on the person who kidnapped her father! She decides to go after the hunter herself, but quickly learns that there are a lot more secrets to the lives of the Incarnates than she ever imagined.
