The first half of the manga of the same name written by Sui Ishida, which was released in Japan from 2011 to 2014, is adapted in the film Tokyo Ghoul.
Unrecognized ghouls are another humanoid life form that resembles regular people on the outside. Ghouls are unique in that they can only eat human flesh, possess superhuman physical strength, and have an extra organ called a claw that they utilize in battle. A government agency in Tokyo by the name of the CCG is only focused on finding and eliminating ghouls who pose as regular people.
This is the setting in which 18-year-old bookworm and Japanese literature student Ken Kaneki lives. He hangs out a lot with his boyhood pal, devours the most recent works of his favorite author, and pursues his covert crush. When his crush turns out to be a ghoul after a date, it utterly upends his life and makes the menace of ghouls appear far away.
