After 130 years, the survivors of a crash landing on a lifeless desert planet still lead a miserable existence. The few larger towns have all grown up around the wreckage of the spacecraft, and they all rely on plants as a form of energy to stay alive. A peculiar coexistence of former high technology and a life in the Wild West has emerged, albeit knowledge of this "lost" technology is almost ever available.
One guy, though, appears to have a unique connection to the past. Vash The Stampede is his moniker, and whenever his name is invoked, fear and dread are disseminated. The astounding amount of 60,000,000,000 28894 is exposed on his head because he is thought to have demolished the Million City of July by himself.
Two insurance agents, Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson, are dispatched by their firm to track down this individual and stop additional damage. When they do locate him, they are shocked by what they see. Vash is revealed to be a glutton and likable slob who can't seem to hurt a fly instead of a dangerous criminal.
