In the anime adaptation of Taishi Tsutsui's manga We Never Learn, Yuiga Nariyuki, a high school student who comes from a low-income household and aspires to receive a scholarship for his studies, is followed. The poor man has no idea what he's getting himself into when the headmaster of his school makes an alluring offer. While initially sounding like a piece of cake, Yuiga soon finds that he's in for an extraordinarily difficult task—one that other tutors have failed at—when he's assigned to tutor the two geniuses Rizu Ogata and Fumino Furuhashi. Rizu, a scientific and mathematical genius, and Fumino, a literary and humanities prodigy, have no interest in their respective disciplines but desire to learn more about each other's, where they are sadly entirely lost and appear to be completely resistive to learning.
Kirisu-previously sensei's boring life ends when Yuiga's childhood friend, the swimming prodigy Uruka Takemoto, joins the group in an effort to also benefit from the learning sessions — and from Yuiga — and Kirisu-sensei also runs into the young man more and more frequently. The two then discover a whole new joy in learning.
