Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht is a science-fiction role-playing game developed by Monolith Soft and published by Namco. It is the first installment in the Xenosaga trilogy, and was released for the PlayStation 2 console in 2002. Set in a distant future, the game follows Shion Uzuki, an engineer working for Vector Industries who becomes involved with KOS-MOS, an android created to battle alien forces. As Shion and her allies travel through space in search of the Zohar—an artifact central to ancient mythology—they uncover secrets that could have far-reaching implications on their lives and the universe itself.
The game features a unique blend of traditional turn-based RPG combat with real-time elements, as well as deep character customization options. Players explore 3D environments while engaging in battles against enemies using various weapons, techniques, and special abilities. The story progresses through cutscenes featuring voice acting from an all-star cast of Japanese voice actors. Players can also take part in optional side quests to gain additional rewards or insight into characters’ backstories.
