Your lie in April is a story about Kōsei Arima, a former child prodigy who had become famous as a pianist until his mother died when he was eleven years old. After her death, he had difficulty hearing the sound of his piano and eventually stopped playing altogether. Two years later, he meets Kaori Miyazono, an audacious, free-spirited violinist whose playing style reflects her manic personality. Through her enthusiasm for the performance arts, she is determined to teach Kōsei to find joy in playing music again and discovers that he has a natural talent for the piano.
The story follows Kōsei's journey as he slowly rediscovers his love of music after meeting Kaori and begins to understand the importance of living life without regrets or fear. Along with their friends Tsubaki Sawabe and Ryota Watari, they form the Music Club at their school where they learn more about themselves and each other while competing in various musical competitions. As their relationship grows deeper, Kōsei must confront his past trauma while discovering what it truly means to live life to its fullest potential.
